A Picnic for Mother's Day
Mom's, our big day is less than a week away and I bet you all are looking forward to it. A little R&R is possible, genuine thank you's, extra XOXOX, and possibly a meal we are not required to cook are all anticipated and well deserved.
I don't believe there is any another job on this planet that is more demanding and I am glad to have it. It is hard for me to imagine what my life would be like not being a mom. The reward of loving a mini me so unconditionally is almost indescribable.
For the past few years, my daughter without fail makes me a special breakfast in bed with toast, fruit, cheese, and a special note along with her handmade craft all by herself. My biggest reward is her excitement to see me excited.
Being the only adult in my household, with a young daughter, celebrating special holidays like Mother’s Day can be tricky. With her best effort in play, my daughter enjoy's me adding in a little fun to celebrate Mother's Day.
She is so excited when I join in on the planning. I now realize that my involvement demonstrates to her how to put in an effort to say THANK YOU MOM! The goal is not to disrupt her being creative, but to help make that day a big deal for us both. She also learns fun ways to celebrate so that when she is older, she won't need my involvement.
Being apart of the Mother's Day celebration planning, does not have to be daunting if you are parenting solo. It's OK to get in the mix on your day and it's actually fun. Remember not to be controlling or bossy. Instead, it's your opportunity to be honest about what you like and what works for you to feel honored on your day.
Also get comfortable changing things up. If you want to avoid the hustle of getting in and out of crowded restaurants, put in a request for a cozy picnic with a good book and delicious snacks. Consider allowing each person to pick their favorite snack to pack and share. Grab pillows and blankets from around the house, simple toys to keep everyone occupied and load up the car. Find that sweet shade under a big tree and spend the day free. Its spring so don’t forget to pack bug repellant, and sun screen.
Most of all, choose to be happy and make new memories this Mother's Day. At the toughest time in my life, a friend said to me "enjoy your daughter and take lots of pictures". It still take her advice and it is EVERYTHING!
